The people at the Pyramid: the Non-Catholic Cemetery re-visited

In the 1980s the British School at Rome and the Swedish Institute in Rome conducted a systematic survey of the graves in the Non-Catholic Cemetery in Testaccio which remains an invaluable database. Since then much more has been discovered about this beautiful burial-ground for foreigners who died in Rome, how it started and then gradually expanded over nearly 300 years. The lecture will draw upon the rich variety of views of it made by Italian and foreign artists since the 18th century to illustrate a number of new discoveries about the cemetery and the people buried there.
