Since the foundation of the BSR in 1901, Architecture has been central to its programme, hosting architects and architectural historians, and providing an intellectual platform for discussion on the future of the discipline. It engages with both the theoretical and the more pragmatic aspects of the built environment and its history, bridging different subjects. In 2021 an Architectural Advisory Committee was set up, to advise on both the programme and awards.
Vehicles for the study of architecture — history, theory and practice — include both specific awards available to young architects and architectural historians, and general awards which are open to post-doctoral researchers and established scholars across the humanities and social sciences, and the visual arts. Further awards are hosted by the BSR and available to candidates from specific institutions or locations.
