North Africa and the Punic Project

This joint research project with the Society for Libyan Studies was directed by Dr. Josephine Crawley Quinn (Oxford) with Professor Simon Keay (Southampton) and Professor Andrew Wilson (Oxford) and organised a series of panels and workshops on Phoenician and Punic history, culture and connections, particularly in the Western Mediterranean.

Papers arising from the project were published in the Papers of the British School at Rome 2009, the Bolletino di Archaeologia Online, as well as in the volume ‘The Punic Mediterranean. Identities and Identification from Phoenician Settlement to Roman Rule‘ (edited by Josephine Crawley Quinn and Nicholas Vella), a collection of essays from a conference held at the BSR in November 2008.
