David Ryan: Recitativo - Fragments

Friday 3 February, 18.00–19.30

Recitativo – Fragments (after Lucretius and Negri) is an ‘open work’ that integrates sounds, words and images. Central to this project is the creation of a spoken text that interweaves aphoristic statements from Lucretius’ philosophical and epic poem De Rerum Natura (‘On the Nature of Things’) and Antonio Negri’s political reworking of these ideas in the late 1990s and early 2000s. A non-linear spatial relationship is developed between these texts, the projected images (which draw on antiquities and landscape), the sounds and the speaking voices. This version will present a unique collaboration between Italian and British musicians/artists.

David Ryan was an Abbey Fellow in Painting 2015-16.
