Access: non-residents


Following further Italian governmental decrees through to 22 March regarding measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the BSR will close from 23 March until further notice.

Non-residential scholars

Non-residents are very welcome at the British School at Rome Library

A Library Membership scheme is available to scholars wishing to use the BSR Library and Archive

Library Membership gives access to the Library during opening hours: Monday and Friday 9.00-17.00; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9.00-18.45, until the 28 reserved desks are occupied

To become a Library Member

Application should be made in person and you will need to bring:

  • a letter of introduction from  your university or academic institution
  • if applicable, confirmation of residency in another foreign academy in Rome
  • passport-size photograph
  • passport / proof of identity

There are 2 categories of Library Membership:

  • Annual : 30 euro
  • Monthly: 10 euro

This fee is waived if you are resident at one of the other foreign academies in Rome

BSR Members receive free Library Membership on confirmation of their status
