Library

The BSR Library is a specialist reference resource welcoming scholars and students from across the world

The open-shelf collection consists of c. 60,000 volumes and 600 current periodicals

New acquisitions since 1992, all periodicals and approx. 80% of pre-1992 volume are available on-line on the URBS catalogue

The Library subscribes to many Italian periodicals which are not widely available in the UK

Collections include:

  • Italian archaeology: prehistory, classical and medieval
  • Italian topography especially Roman topography
  • ancient history and texts
  • ecclesiastical and medieval Italian history
  • history of Italian art and architecture
  • the writings of travellers in Italy
  • ancient religions
  • rare books collection, including Thomas Ashby’s library
