‘And did those feet in ancient time.’ Meditations on movement
Monday 27 November 2017, 6.00 p.m.
Stephen Milner (BSR)
The start of the 2017-18 academic year marks a new era for the BSR with the appointment of Professor Stephen Milner as its sixteenth director. To commemorate the occasion, Stephen will deliver an inaugural speech setting out his aims for the future strategy of the BSR, regarding the year ahead and beyond. This inaugural lecture takes literal and figurative feet, and the associated practices of walking and narration, as a starting point for examining the generative power of movement in the production of culture. Acts of translation, transmission, displacement and dislocation are all embodied, as well as symbolic, processes. As boundaries become more clearly defined, the need to advocate for mobility and exchange has become ever more pressing.
This event will be held at the British Academy, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AH.
It is expected that this event will be very popular. If you do wish to attend, please e-mail us as soon as possible at firstname.lastname@example.org.
