Outings:

Site visits are intended to enhance the research interests of staff, scholars and residents with first-hand experience, and to enrich the understanding of Italian history and culture. Special permissions enable visits normally unavailable to the individual scholar. These are organised on a regular basis within Rome and its environs, as well as further afield, to archaeological sites, places of architectural, artistic or historical significance, venues of temporary exhibitions and centres of Italian tradition.
Ostia Antica

Site visits in recent years, organised through the Humanities programme and by individual scholars, include:

S. Maria Egiziaca (Temple of Portunus); the Parco dei Mostri at Bomarzo and Villa Lante at Bagnaia, the Vatican Necropolis (Via Triumphalis), Domus Aurea, villas Mondragone, Falconieri and Aldobrandini at Frascati, Pompeii and Herculaneum, Castello Ruspoli at Vignanello and Castello Orsini at Valanello, Palazzo Chigi at Ariccia, the Museo delle Navi at Lake Nemi, the Abbey of Farfa, Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola, Villa Pamphilj, the Abbey of S. Nilo at Grottaferrata, the Tower of the Winds in the Vatican and Archivio Segreto Vaticano, Santa Maria del Priorato, Palazzo Pamphilj in Piazza Navona, Villa Madama, Parma and Vicenza (for the Correggio and Palladio exhibitions) Lake Trasimeno and Cortona, Arezzo (for the Della Robbia exhibition), Monte Testaccio, Palazzo Farnese, Palazzo Valentini, Palazzo Costaguti, Villa Sacchetti, the Roman house under Santa Maria Maggiore, Palazzo Spada, Vatican Necropolis, Tarquinia and the catacombs of Priscilla, Pomonius Hylas and Callixtus.

We are extremely fortunate to have as School Secretary Maria Pia Malvezzi, who over the years has established a relationship of trust and respect between the School and Rome’s institutions, and who is constantly working miracles in obtaining permissions.
