Italy in Europe: mapping medieval literary history

MONDAY 11 JUNE, 18.00–19.30

David Wallace (Pennsylvania)

David Wallace is the editor and architect of the ground-breaking two-volume Europe: a Literary History, 1348–1418, which re-evaluated Europe’s literary landscape in the age before nation states. This lecture will address questions of where Europe begins and ends — then as now — and the mobility of cultures across and through the Italian peninsula as part of a process of assessing the free movement of European literature in all its variety, local peculiarity and regenerative power.
This event will be held at the British Academy, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH.
